Quality Specialist at OTTO
From April 2016 to June 2018
I had a role as a Test Manager / Quality Specialist in the team Online Marketing Entwicklung. At this position I had been overwatching QA activities during development of multiple internal-facing tools, that all had the goal of enabling productivity increase in online marketing related departments of the company.
During my time in this scrum team, we had approached and solved multiple challenges, including but not limited to:
- Architectural changes (began transition from monolithic applications to microservices for robustness and horizontal scalability)
- Containerization and transition from local datacenter to AWS
- Introduction of good security methods and countermeasures
- Multiple performance rounds of improvements
During my work I:
- Recommended introduction of exploratory testing practices instead of unmaintainable scripted testing,
- Introduced concept of ad-hoc test automation
- Introduced functional and data test automation using Robot Framework, taught a junior Quality Specialist advanced Robot Framework usage, so that he was able to carry on with the automation after my leave
- Maintained teams’ dashboard and deployment processes
- Defined additional technical tests, including backup & recovery, performance, end-to-end smoke tests
- Took part in and contributed in company’s Community of Practice
- Drove the responsibility for testing from a single person being a Quality Gate to the whole team in order to promote common responsibility for products’ quality
Additionally I introduced multiple tools for improvement of repeatability of testing efforts. Those tools are:
- Postman for API testing
- Robot Framework for UI and End-to-End testing
- Python modules: nosetests and Great Expectations for automated checking of output data conformance
- Ansible for quick deployment of status dashboards, including Ansible Vault for secure storage of credentials at the lightweight machines
Auxiliary activities included:
- Mentoring of two junior Quality Specialists
